Hi Ron, with spinal stenosis you're dealing with a tough situation where the spinal canal in the lumbar spine narrows from bony extrusions into the canal from degenerative joint disease. This places pressure on the nerves to the legs which is why you get those symptoms. Spinal decompression surgery is usually recommended for severe cases. In less severe cases, you may find relief with the McKenzie exercises. I show some of them in the Lumbar self-care rehab video. Strengthening your abs and back muscles is also a good idea.

My doctor said I have spinal stenosis that is causing numbness down my legs and leg weakness. So far exercises have not helped that much, and I'm afraid of getting surgery. Is there anything more I can do? Thank you.

Hi Almira, most people do not feel PEMF, as it is low frequency and relatively low energy (to match the human body's natural magnetic field output). However, the stronger machines sometimes may cause a feeling of tiny muscle twitches, with each pulse. No, this is not TENS technology, which puts an actual electrical current on the skin which get picked up by sensory nerves. PEMF's effect is on the membrane charges of cells, which carry an electrical charge. It strengthens the cell voltage so to speak, which helps the cells perform their functions. If the cell is involved in repairing itself, then those processes are enhanced.

Hi Suzie, thanks for the question. Stroke paralysis is in most cases permanent, as the motor cells in the brain involved with certain muscle movement die from lack of oxygen due to the stoke. However, it is still worth trying whole body PEMF, as it may help improve some secondary problems such as poor sleep and muscle pain/discomfort.

Good points. I think the media has a responsibility to deliver just what is true, and not dwell on what might happen. It is not helpful to cause alarm because it hurts businesses unecessarily, which means people will be laid off and families will suffer.

Glad you liked it, Harun. I think there is a similar Chinese saying or practice to eat just until you are half-full, and to "walk 100 steps" after a meal.
