Part 1 – Start a Corrective Exercise Regimen
Finding the Right Movement
Treating your own back pain starts with finding the right movement and exercise combination that relieves your particular pain. Understand that one type of movement may make one person feel better and another person feel worse. It all depends on what is happening on the inside—what internal structures are generating the pain, and how they change shape and position with particular movements (bending to the right, left, forward, back; lying down, standing up, etc.).
When you bend your spine, the discs, ligaments, tendons and muscles change shape and/or shift position. Different gross movements of the spine cause different changes in shape and position of internal soft tissue structures.
