How Do You Know if You Have Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia and CFS are difficult to diagnose since there is no blood test or other diagnostic test such as X-ray, MRI or ultrasound that can provide a definitive diagnosis.  These conditions are diagnosed based on the patient’s subjective complaints; i.e. what the patient describes he/she is experiencing.

Since the mechanism of the disorder is unknown, Fibromyalgia and CFS are more accurately called syndromes, not diseases.  Doctors cannot say with confidence what causes it—a virus, bacteria, parasite, auto-immune reaction, genetic defect, exposure to an environmental toxin or something else.
